Under the UK Government's ECO Scheme, you could be entitled to have your room in roof insulated, at no cost to you.
In the Climate Change Act 2008, the UK Government promised to lower emissions to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. However, at the current rate this looks unlikely to happen. To remedy this, the government is funding home energy saving measures to make households more energy efficient, and at the same time, reduce energy costs to those considered to be in fuel poverty.
Room in roof insulation creates a thermal barrier that traps heat in your home, which means during the winter months less heat will escape and your room will stay warm. During the summer, the insulation stops heat penetrating the roof and creating a sauna like effect.
As heat loss is greatly reduced with room in roof insulation, less energy will be used to heat your home, leading to savings of up to £500 per year.
Room in roof insulation is free to homeowners in England and Wales, where someone in the household is in receipt of at least one of over 15 qualifying benefits.
